Prolactinopituitary tumor is a type of tumor belonging to the endocrine system and is mainly seen in neurosurgery. Early treatment can also be done by endocrinology, as lactating pituitary tumors can be treated early by conservative treatment, with the main drug being bromocriptine. Either neurosurgery or endocrinology can be consulted during conservative treatment and medication can be administered. However, if the symptoms are not well controlled by medication during the course of treatment, surgery may be considered. Therefore, it is best to see a neurosurgeon for lactating pituitary adenomas. For lactating pituitary adenoma, surgery needs to be considered when the prolactin is greater than 500ng/mL and the symptoms are not well controlled by medication. The chances of bringing the prolactin level down to normal after surgical treatment are rare and require routine oral bromocriptine to continue treatment. If preoperative prolactin is less than 500ng/mL, surgical correction of prolactin levels is possible. Although prolactin pituitary tumors can be seen in either neurosurgery or endocrinology, in summary, neurosurgery is the best choice for consultation.
