How to take Gui Zhi Tang

Gui Zhi Tang is decocted with water and taken warm with light sweating, and can be used for external wind-cold syndrome of surface deficiency (a type of syndrome characterized by fever, chills, sweating, and malaise, etc.).
Gui Zhi Tang is composed of Paeonia lactiflora, jujube, Gui Zhi, ginger and Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae. In this formula, Gui Zhi helps Wei Yang (yang qi on the surface of the muscles), releases and relieves the muscles, and opens the meridians and channels; Paeonia lactiflora restrains and solidifies the Ying yin of the leaked Ying, restraining the Ying yin and benefiting Yin; ginger stops vomiting and harmonizes the stomach to help Gui Zhi dissipate the superficial evils; jujube strengthens the spleen and strengthens the vital energy and assists Paeonia lactiflora in replenishing the Yin of the Ying; and Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae moderates the properties of the medicines. The combination of all the medicines can harmonize the camp and the guard, and release and relieve the muscle.
The modern use of Gui Zhi Tang is to decoct water and take it warm with light sweat. It has the effect of harmonizing Ying Wei (making the internal and external qi of the human body smooth, each in its own way), and releasing and relieving muscles (relieving the evil qi on the surface of the skin), and can be used for the syndrome of surface deficiency of external wind-cold, which is characterized by malignant wind with fever, nasal ringing, dryness and nausea, headache with sweating, white fur and no thirst, and a weak or slow floating pulse.
