Symptoms of Infant Brain Injury

Symptoms of brain injury in infants are characterized by acute symptoms and sequelae of brain injury. Acute symptoms are mainly characterized by impaired consciousness, head symptoms and systemic symptoms. Sequelae of brain injury include abnormal intellectual development and abnormal behavioral development.
1. Acute symptoms
(1) Disorders of consciousness: many of them will be combined with disorders of consciousness, which are drowsiness, light stupor, coma and deep coma from light to deep, respectively.
(2) Head symptoms: mainly manifested as severe headache and dizziness, which may be persistent or intermittently aggravated.
(3) Systemic symptoms: mainly manifested as vomiting, which is projectile vomiting, while some of the infants with markedly increased intracranial pressure will be accompanied by convulsions.
2. Sequelae of brain injury
(1) Abnormal intellectual development: some patients with brain injury will have backward intellectual development.
(2) Abnormalities in motor development: children with brain injury may have abnormal postural maintenance and backward motor development.
If an infant has a brain injury, it is important to identify the cause and treat it actively for the best prevention.
