Can a cataract in one eye cause glaucoma in the other?

The presence of cataracts in one eye of a patient is not necessarily associated with the development of glaucoma in the other eye, but if a patient develops a cataract in the swelling stage in the other eye, it may induce glaucoma.
Cataract is a disease that occurs when the lens inside the eye becomes cloudy due to aging, trauma, etc. The main manifestation is vision loss. Cataracts in one eye usually do not cause glaucoma in the other eye. However, if the patient has a cataract in the other eye and it is in the expansion phase, it may cause glaucoma.
Glaucoma is a disease caused by elevated intraocular pressure, which can result in optic nerve atrophy, visual field defects and irreversible vision loss.
Patients with cataracts and glaucoma are advised to seek prompt medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions.
