Can ventricular septal thickening be reversed by exercise?

The thickening of the interventricular septum cannot be reversed by exercise. If it is a physiologic manifestation, no special treatment is needed; if it is a pathological manifestation, it must be treated according to the specific situation. 1. If the thickening of the interventricular septum is a physiologic manifestation, it is mostly seen in athletes and other people who exercise regularly, but its thickness is usually less than 12mm. 2. If septal thickening is pathologic, it can be seen in patients with hypertension, aortic stenosis, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and its thickness is generally greater than 12 mm. clinical treatment of septal thickening must be tailored to the cause of the problem: (1) If septal thickening is caused by hypertension, angiotensin LL receptor antagonists (e.g., cloxartan) and calcium antagonists (e.g., nifedipine) should be administered under the supervision of a physician to reduce peripheral vascular resistance and reduce cardiac afterload. (2) If the thickening of the interventricular septum is caused by aortic stenosis, surgical treatment should be prepared on a case-by-case basis, and attention should be paid to the prevention of infections, if necessary, if there are signs of heart failure. (3) If septal thickening is due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, non-dihydropyridine antagonists (e.g., diltiazem, etc.), beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol, etc.), and, if necessary, surgical treatment or alcohol ablation should be prescribed. Patients with ventricular septal thickening must be treated under the supervision of a physician and should not be taken for granted to be reversed by exercise.
