What’s wrong with smelly earwax in children with cerumen impaction?

Children with cerumen embolism and smelly earwax may be caused by localized infection of the external auditory canal due to blockage of earwax. There are cerumen glands in the external auditory canal, when the external auditory canal is locally stimulated, such as pulling out the ear, water in the ear will cause excessive secretion of cerumen glands, which in turn will cause cerumen embolism of the external auditory canal, and on the basis of which the earwax will become smelly when secondary bacterial infection occurs. In case of cerumen impaction, parents should take their children to the hospital in time to remove the cerumen, including direct removal or rinsing with saline. After cerumen removal, the outer ear canal should be kept dry to avoid secondary infection. In general, care should be taken to avoid water in the external ear canal, spicy and irritating food, and rough ear digging.
