Do babies need zinc supplements?

Babies without symptoms of zinc deficiency do not need regular zinc supplements, but if symptoms of zinc deficiency, such as growth retardation, occur, appropriate zinc supplements are needed.
Babies who eat a balanced diet and are in good health generally do not suffer from zinc deficiency because zinc can be obtained from food, and there is a high level of zinc in seafood, nuts and animal foods. If your child is not a picky eater, he or she will get enough zinc from food to support his or her growth and development and will not need to take extra zinc supplements.
However, if your child is a picky eater, partiality, resulting in limited zinc intake; or if the gastrointestinal tract is weak in digestion and absorption, the zinc absorption rate decreases, and symptoms of zinc deficiency will occur, which will require zinc supplementation. You can eat zinc-rich foods, such as meat, animal offal, nuts, etc. If the effect of zinc supplementation is not good, you can follow the doctor’s instructions to take oral zinc gluconate oral solution and other zinc supplements for zinc supplementation.
Zinc is an important mineral element for children’s healthy growth. Symptoms of zinc deficiency may include growth retardation, low resistance, skin and mucous membrane damage, impaired intelligence, decreased appetite, and xerophagia.
If your child has any of these symptoms, it is recommended that you consult a doctor to find out the cause of the deficiency, and if necessary, cooperate with your doctor to take a zinc supplement. Medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor.
