1. Different traits of plants: Codonopsis pilosula is the root of the plant Codonopsis pilosula, chewing without dregs, with a length of 15~45 cm, 0.5~2.5 cm; its surface is gray-yellow, reddish brown or gray-brown, with branches or few branches below the middle, and an enlarged head at the top.
Vegetarian ginseng is the root of the plant Vegetarian ginseng, which is chewed without residue, and the length of the root is not more than 30 centimeters; its surface is greyish-brown with oil spots and few branches.
2. Different growing environments: Ginseng should grow in the forest edge and mountain bushes. Vegetative ginseng grows in the undergrowth, thickets and forest edges of mountainous areas between 1500 and 3200 meters above sea level.
