Lumbar herniation corresponding to the pain site

The common areas of pain associated with lumbar disc herniation are as follows: First, if the patient has a herniated disc at L3/4, it may cause pain in the lower back, the inner anterior part of the calf, or around the knee joint. Second, if the patient has a herniated disc at L4/5, it may cause pain in the lower back, along with the thighs and the outer part of the calves, and sometimes the patient may have pain in the posterior aspect of the buttocks. Third, if the patient has a herniated disc in L5/S1, it may cause widespread pain in the lumbosacral region, as well as the back of the thigh or below the knee. Fifth, if the patient has a high level of such a lesion, or a particularly severe lumbar disc herniation, it may lead to pain in the lower back as well as in the back of the thighs and calves bilaterally.
