Treatment of mild herpes zoster is primarily antiviral and can include oral antiviral medications such as valacyclovir hydrochloride tablets, famciclovir tablets, or acyclovir tablets, and topical acyclovir ointment, ganciclovir ointment, imiquimod ointment, or recombinant human interferon alpha 2b ointment. If the patient is in pain, topical capsaicin ointment can also be used. Also, patients with shingles can take oral methylcobalamin capsules for nerve nutrition. Herpes zoster is mostly due to a decrease in the body’s immune function and can be treated with immune-boosting drugs such as oral pidomod, mushroom mushroom polysaccharide tablets or thymidine enteric capsules. Patients with shingles should get good rest, not be overly anxious, not be overly angry, and patients with shingles should also get a good night’s sleep.
