What to take for pneumothorax

Most patients with pneumothorax do not need to take medication. Patients with small amount of pneumothorax can be treated conservatively according to doctor’s advice; patients with medium or large amount of pneumothorax need to follow doctor’s advice to have exhaust therapy or surgical treatment. 1. Conservative treatment: patients with small amount of pneumothorax are recommended to keep absolute bed rest and fully absorb oxygen, which can help absorption and facilitate recovery. During the period of illness, one should minimize talking and reduce lung activity, which is conducive to gas absorption and lung reopening. 2. Exsufflation therapy: if patients with medium or large pneumothorax have obvious symptoms of dyspnea or heavy lung compression, they can undergo exsufflation therapy, such as pleural cavity puncture and suction method, closed chest drainage and so on. 3. Surgery: If the condition of patients with medium or large pneumothorax is serious and the conservative treatment is not effective, they can undergo surgery, such as pleural adhesion surgery, chemical pleural fixation, etc. However, if there is a combination of infection at the same time, it is necessary to use anti-inflammatory drugs. But if at the same time combined with infection need to use antibiotics, such as cefradine, azithromycin, etc., dry cough is strong need to take oral cough suppressant, such as dextromethorphan. It is recommended that patients with pneumothorax go to the hospital as soon as possible and follow the doctor’s instructions to choose the appropriate treatment. Avoid strenuous exercise to prevent aggravation of pneumothorax.
