New drug for asthma’s nemesis

There are some new medications for asthma, such as omalizumab, but these medications are not the nemesis of asthma, but are used as adjunctive therapy for refractory asthma.
There is no such thing as a cure for asthma, and comprehensive treatment is needed. Even new drugs such as omalizumab cannot replace traditional drugs such as inhaled glucocorticosteroids and inhaled bronchodilators, such as budesonide formoterol and salmeterol ticarcoson, and so on.
But there is some value in the use of drugs such as omalizumab, which is an anti-IgE antibody. The mechanism of asthma pathogenesis is chronic aseptic airway inflammation, and if it manifests as IgE-mediated airway inflammation, the use of omalizumab has a certain therapeutic effect. Especially for patients with asthma who do not respond well to conventional treatment, the combination of this drug may enhance the therapeutic effect.
The type of asthma airway inflammation also needs to be evaluated when using omalizumab. If the patient’s airway inflammation is not IgE-mediated, omalizumab has no therapeutic effect. Therefore, it is necessary for the doctor to decide on the specific medication according to the condition.
Patients with asthma are advised to consult a physician for standardized and systematic treatment under the guidance of a physician.
