How to treat exostosis of the big foot

A big toe bunion, clinically known as a bunion, is a deformity of the bunion joint, mainly manifested by the lateral deviation of the bunion at the first metatarsophalangeal joint, and may be accompanied by symptoms such as redness, swelling and pain of the joint. If the patient has only mild bunion deformity with no symptoms or mild symptoms, conservative treatment is usually recommended. Patients with severe deformity and obvious pain need to undergo surgery under the advice of a doctor: 1. Conservative treatment: shoe wear adjustment. Patients should wear suitable and comfortable shoes with loose, well-supported shoes that can support the arch of the foot and reduce the friction of the hallux valgus. Patients can also reduce the weight bearing of the big toe by sandwiching cotton pads between the first and second toes, and can also use splints on the inside of the bunion under the treatment of the doctor as appropriate to correct the deformity; 2. Surgical treatment: for patients whose valgus deformity is not serious and whose pain is limited to the inside of the first metatarsal, the valgus deformity can be corrected by completely removing the metatarsal growth through surgery, which is simple to operate but easy to recur. The bunion muscle of the big toe can also be transferred from the proximal phalanx to the lateral side of the first metatarsal head to increase the outward force of the first metatarsal, remove the bony growth, and relieve the compression. In cases of large bunion angles, the proximal 1/3 of the proximal phalanx of the big toe should be removed to shorten the bunion and release the contractural tension of the bunion tendon and lateral joint capsule to correct the deformity.
