What is periodontal scaling

Periodontal scaling is an effective means of treating periodontitis, a disease in which the gums around the teeth become inflamed and the alveolar bone is destroyed by resorption. The main cause of periodontitis is the accumulation of plaque microorganisms on the tooth surface, i.e., the soft tartar and tartar deposited into the periodontal pockets, and the microorganisms and the products they release trigger a series of destruction in periodontitis. A large part of the treatment is to remove plaque and tartar from the tooth surface and the periodontal pockets. For the plaque and tartar attached to the periodontal pockets and the roots of the teeth, the ultrasonic subgingival instruments and manual subgingival scrapers are used to clean up the plaque and tartar, which is called periodontal scraping. For patients with deeper plaque and tartar deposits, scaling is a necessary treatment, but not every periodontal patient needs to receive periodontal scaling, and the need for scaling treatment can only be decided after a professional periodontal examination and evaluation by the doctor.
