Is Irritable Bowel Syndrome Related to Helicobacter Pylori?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome and H. pylori may be related, but it is not clear whether they are actually related. Infection with H. pylori affects digestion and absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in intestinal dysfunction. Irritable bowel syndrome also manifests as intestinal dysfunction with symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, and changes in bowel habits, so irritable bowel syndrome and H. pylori infection may be related. In addition, the incidence of H. pylori infection is higher in patients with irritable bowel syndrome than in the rest of the population, and the efficacy of the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome can be significantly improved by the adjunctive eradication of H. pylori drugs. The etiology as well as the pathogenesis of irritable bowel syndrome are still unclear, and it cannot be stated unequivocally that H. pylori infection is associated with irritable bowel syndrome.
