Can psoriasis cause obesity?

Psoriasis may lead to obesity.
Psoriasis patients who take glucocorticoid drugs, such as prednisone and dexamethasone, may lead to obesity. Glucocorticoids have strong anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects, and are commonly used in the treatment of erythrodermic psoriasis, arthritic psoriasis, and generalized pustular psoriasis to alleviate local itching and reduce scaling.
However, glucocorticoids affect the metabolism of sugar, fat and protein in the body, and if used for a long time, they will trigger metabolic disorders and cause obesity. Therefore, it is suggested that when psoriasis patients use glucocorticosteroids, they can use them in combination with retinoic acid drugs, such as Avitamin A, or immunosuppressants such as methotrexate, which can reduce the dosage of hormones and the occurrence of adverse reactions.
If the diagnosis of psoriasis is confirmed, please do not self-medication, it is recommended to go to the hospital, under the guidance of the doctor’s diagnosis and treatment.
