How to take Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata and Semen Cuscutae

Both Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata and Semen Cuscutae are used in decoction. Semen Cuscutae can also be used externally for palpitations and dizziness (violent heartbeat, panic disorder), discharging blood (excessive menstrual flow or dribbling), and lumbar and knee soreness.
Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata (熟地黄) has the effect of nourishing yin and tonifying blood, filling in the marrow and benefiting the essence.
It can be used in treating deficiency of liver and kidney, tinnitus and dizziness, deficiency of essence and blood; palpitations, blood deficiency, menstrual disorders, soreness of waist and knees, deficiency of yin of liver and kidney, spermatorrhea and night sweating (sweating abnormally after falling asleep and stopping after waking up), and so on.
It is recommended to be used together with Chen Pi for the use of decoction. It is not recommended to be used for those who have stagnant qi and phlegm, have little food and loose stools, or those who have fullness of dampness in the middle of the body (dampness is too heavy to cause fullness in the spleen and stomach).
Cuscuta has the effects of tranquilizing the fetus, reducing urination and consolidating essence, brightening the eyes, tonifying the liver and kidneys, and stopping diarrhea.
Externally, it has the effect of eliminating wind and eliminating blemishes, and can be used for the deficiency of the liver and kidney, tinnitus and dizziness; the deficiency of the liver and kidney, frequent urination; vitiligo; restlessness of the fetus, fetal leakage of kidney deficiency (a small amount of bleeding from the vagina in the early stage of pregnancy); deficiency of the spleen and kidney, diarrhea, and so on.
It can be decocted or used externally. It is not suitable for people with short and red urine (small amount of urine with dark yellow color), yin deficiency and fire, or dry stools.
