Where the egg cell is fertilized

The main site of oocyte fertilization is in the fallopian tube. The fallopian tube is divided into four parts, which can be divided into the umbilical end, the abdomen, the isthmus and the interstitial part from outside to inside. 75% of the fertilization takes place in the abdomen of the fallopian tube, which is the most dilated and the main site of fertilization. During ovulation, the ovary expels an egg, which is caught by the egg picker at the umbilical end of the fallopian tube and transported to the lumen of the fallopian tube to await fertilization. The sperm is ejected from the vagina into the uterine cavity, from which it enters the fallopian tube, where it meets the egg waiting in the fallopian tube. After the fertilized egg is formed, it begins to undergo mitosis and is transported by peristalsis of the fallopian tube from the umbilical end to the interstitial part, that is, towards the uterine cavity.
