Patients who have been slapped in the ear and are unable to hear need to go to the hospital promptly for a detailed examination of the ear structure to see if there is any breakage or bleeding of the skin of the ear canal, if traumatic perforation of the eardrum has occurred, and if necessary, to further improve the audiological function examination. If the patient has an intact tympanic membrane and blood accumulation in the ear canal, an aspirator can be used to clear the blood accumulation in the ear canal, which can help improve hearing. If the patient has a traumatic tympanic membrane perforation, he or she should be treated with oral antibiotics, usually penicillin or cephalosporin, to prevent further acute inflammation of the middle ear. It is also important to keep the ear canal clean and clear, to avoid water in the ear, and to review regularly to see if the tympanic membrane perforation can heal on its own.
