Swelling in late pregnancy may be improved by low-salt diet, limiting water intake, massaging the calves, correcting the low-protein diet, and adjusting the body position, but it may not be completely eliminated.
1. Low-salt diet: Swelling in late pregnancy may be caused by sodium retention, decreased plasma colloid osmolality, and impaired venous or lymphatic reflux. A low-salt diet, with salt intake below 6g per day, may reduce swelling.
2. Limit water intake: water intake should be appropriately limited every day when swelling occurs in late pregnancy. Drinking too much water may aggravate swelling, and the amount of water intake should be close to the amount of urination.
3. Massage the calves: Proper massage of the calves may reduce swelling of the legs, pregnant women themselves or find others to assist in massage.
4. Correct low-protein diet: body swelling caused by hypoproteinemia, to correct hypoproteinemia, appropriate intake of lean meat, soy products, supplemental high-quality protein, may improve swelling.
5. Adjust the body position: do not sit still for a long time, and properly elevate the lower limbs when lying in bed, which is conducive to venous blood return, and can also reduce leg swelling.
If the swelling in late pregnancy is more serious, you can also go to the hospital for treatment.
