Fresh mugwort leaf has the effects of warming menstruation and stopping bleeding (warming the body’s meridians to stop bleeding in the body), dispersing cold and relieving pain (relieving pain by dispelling cold in the body), and dispelling dampness and relieving itching. Fresh mugwort leaf is used for treating hematemesis, epistaxis, hemoptysis, hematochezia, hematemesis in stool, metrorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow or more than a few drops), hematemesis in pregnancy, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, dysfunction of the fetus, cardiac and abdominal coldness and pain (cold pain in the location of the heart and abdomen), diarrhea with prolonged dysentery, cholera and cramps, bandhas, eczema, mange, hemorrhoids and carbuncle ulcers. Caution should be exercised in cases of yin deficiency and blood heat. Dosage should not be too high when used with sedatives and anesthetics.
