How long can you sit with a fractured lumbar spine

Patients with lumbar spine fractures often need to meet clinical healing criteria before they can sit up. The clinical healing time for a lumbar spine fracture is usually 10-12 weeks, or about 3 months. In the clinic, doctors often conduct imaging tests, such as DR or CT, at 10-12 weeks after the fracture to determine whether the fracture has reached clinical healing. Only when the fracture has reached clinical healing can the patient be allowed to sit. It is best to wear a girdle or brace when the patient sits up, so as to protect the patient’s lower back. The time and frequency of sitting up should follow the principle of gradual progress. Some patients may feel dizziness and headache when they just sit up, which is often caused by long time in bed and change of body position, and patients need to adapt slowly.
