Dog bite symptoms within 24 hours

Generally there are no symptoms of rabies attack within 24 hours of a dog bite, only pain and discomfort from the wound. If you are bitten by a dog that has not been vaccinated against rabies, there is a possibility of rabies virus infection and rabies vaccination is recommended within 24 hours. The rabies virus generally has a long incubation period, as short as 10 days and as long as 1-3 months. Dog bites should be rinsed with plenty of water immediately after being bitten, the wound should be disinfected, and the rabies vaccine should be given within 24 hours at the nearest health facility.
