The overall prognosis of knee osteoarthritis is good. Early detection and early intervention can prevent further deterioration of the disease, and through conservative treatment, most patients can return to normal life. Conservative treatment is less effective in advanced stages of the disease, making it difficult to relieve pain, and most patients are unable to return to a normal life. The ultimate treatment for these patients with osteoarthritis of the knee is joint replacement, i.e., replacing the necrotic articular cartilage on the surface of the knee joint with an artificial prosthesis, after which the joint function can be restored to a normal state.
