Signs of hot flashes include dry mouth, heartburn, warmth in the hands and feet, constipation, and heaviness in the head and body. Hot flashes refer to the symptom of self-consciousness of a burst of heat. Yin deficiency syndrome, dampness-warmth (warmth caused by feeling dampness-heat) syndrome, and yang-ming syndrome all have the symptom of hot flashes, which are accompanied by different symptoms, and should be differentiated.
If hot flashes occur due to Yin deficiency syndrome, they are often accompanied by sweating at night while sleeping, insomnia and heartburn, warmth in the hands and feet, and dryness in the mouth and excessive drinking, the treatment should be nourishing Yin and clearing away heat.
If the hot flashes are caused by Dampness-Warmth syndrome, the symptoms are fever in the afternoon, the skin is not hot to the touch but feels hot when the hand stays for a little while, and the head and body feel sleepy and heavy, etc. The treatment should be to dissolve the Dampness and clear away the Heat.
If the hot flashes are caused by Yang Ming syndrome, they are mostly manifested as fever in the afternoon from 3 to 5 o’clock, with higher heat, accompanied by redness, thirst, sweating and constipation, etc. The treatment should be to pass through the internal organs to drain the heat.
