Appendiceal surgery usually takes 1-2 weeks to recover after surgery. The reason for the difference in surgery time is very much related to the way the patient is operated and the severity and type of appendicitis. For patients with septic or gangrenous appendicitis, or even patients with perforated appendix, the recovery time after surgery is relatively long because a drainage tube may be placed during surgery, and the drainage tube is usually removed in about 4-5 days, so the recovery time for similar patients is about 2 weeks after surgery. For minimally invasive surgery of the appendix, such as laparoscopic assisted appendectomy, the recovery time is faster, usually about 1 week after surgery. For open appendectomy, the stitches are removed about 1 week after surgery, so the full recovery time takes 7-14 days after surgery.
