What are the dangers of high gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase?

Gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase is mainly involved in the metabolism of glutathione. Elevation is usually seen in various liver injuries, biliary tract diseases and other organ pathologies.

1. Liver injury: acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma and other liver lesions will produce anorexia, fever, hepatic encephalopathy, hypoproteinemia, jaundice, cachexia and other physical hazards.

2. Biliary tract diseases: intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile duct obstruction, bile duct tumor, chronic cholestasis and other diseases will produce jaundice, high fever, abdominal distension, ascites, infection and other symptoms.

3. Others: pancreatic cancer, prostate tumors, fatty liver, pancreatitis, etc. will also show an increase in γ-glutamyl transpeptidase, resulting in pain, fever, frequent urination, painful urination, hematuria, abdominal distension and other symptoms.

The causes of γ-glutamyl transpeptidase are different, and so are the treatments. It is recommended to consult a doctor in time for targeted treatments under the doctor’s guidance.
