Can glaucoma in children be cured?

Glaucoma in children can be cured, but only if it is detected and treated early. Because glaucoma is known as a vision killer, the longer the high eye pressure lasts, the higher the eye pressure, the more damage it causes to the optic nerve. If once optic nerve atrophy is formed, it is difficult to cure. Therefore, if the condition is detected in the early stages of glaucoma, early pharmacological intervention to lower the IOP to normal or anti-glaucoma surgery to maintain the IOP in a normal range can be performed without causing any damage to the eye and treating the disease. However, if the condition is detected late, for example, if the child has developed optic nerve atrophy, treatment at this stage can only aim to lower the IOP and relieve the pain in the eye, but vision recovery is usually less desirable.
