The elderly should be alert to the application of antihypertensive drugs containing diuretics

Hypertension is a common disease among middle-aged and elderly people, and is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Long-term increase in blood pressure can cause damage to the heart, brain and kidney (target organs), and is one of the main causes of disability and death among middle-aged and elderly people. In China, the average prevalence of hypertension among adults is 7.8%, and it is 3-4 times higher in people over 40 years old than in those aged 15-39 years old, and it is higher in urban than in rural areas, and higher in the north than in the south. With the improvement of living standards, the current prevalence of hypertension in China has a tendency to continue to increase, and the awareness rate, treatment rate and control rate are low. Therefore, reasonable diet, medication and healthy lifestyle can effectively control blood pressure, which can improve its quality of life and prognosis, and at the same time can greatly reduce the health and economic burden of the country and families. Medication is currently the main method of controlling hypertension, and the earlier it is treated in a timely and correct manner, the less harm it will bring. Moreover, the treatment of hypertension is a long-term process, so the price of drugs has to be considered. Diuretics are the basic drugs for the treatment of hypertension and have been favored by doctors and hypertensive patients because of their low price and certain efficacy. They are one of the necessary ingredients of many compound antihypertensive drugs such as compound antihypertensive tablets and capsules, Beijing antihypertensive 0, regular medicine antihypertensive tablets and Zhenju antihypertensive tablets. However, because of the declining function of each organ, especially in summer, the elderly people eat less and the recipes are simple. Taking antihypertensive drugs containing diuretics are prone to electrolyte disorders, especially hypokalemia and hyponatremia, leading to poor mental health, drowsiness, loss of appetite, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, constipation, weakness, panic, premature beats, tachycardia, etc., which can cause death in serious cases and are easily ignored when the symptoms are not obvious. Therefore, electrolytes should be reviewed regularly when taking antihypertensive drugs containing diuretics, and you should consult a doctor promptly when the above symptoms appear to avoid serious consequences.
