Gastroscopy is a complementary examination in which an endoscope with a camera is inserted into the body to view the esophagus, stomach and duodenum.
You should not drink water for 2 hours before an ordinary gastroscopy, while you should not drink water for 6 to 8 hours before a painless gastroscopy.
As water is consumed before the examination, there will also be secretion of gastric juices, and if water is not prohibited, it will cause accidental aspiration into the lungs during the examination, which may lead to chemical pneumonitis and cause adverse consequences.
It should also be noted that the general gastroscopy is fasting 6 to 8 hours before the examination to avoid a large amount of food residue, which will affect the observation effect. In addition, if you have ever taken aspirin, warfarin and other blood-activating drugs, you need to stop using them one week before the examination.
