Advantages of Daytime Hernia Surgery

The proportion of day surgery has steadily increased over the past 25 years. Inguinal hernia repair is universally accepted as a day surgery procedure. Day surgery must be performed by highly qualified professionals with extensive experience in traditional inpatient surgery to reduce complication rates and unplanned readmissions and to achieve greater efficiency. The surgical principles of daytime hernia surgery are the same as those of conventional surgery. However, it effectively avoids problems that may occur with prolonged hospital stays, such as nosocomial infections, or changes in routine medication (e.g., inpatients with diabetes often do not need to change from oral medication to injectable insulin therapy, avoiding missed, delayed, or duplicate medications that may be caused by medical staff). The complication rate for day surgery is not greater than for inpatient surgery. On the contrary because of early activity, the risk of thromboembolism is reduced, pain relief is faster, and the stress of the patient and family is also reduced.
