How often to change the IUD

The duration of use of the IUD is closely related to the material used, the type of IUD and the medication it contains, which varies from person to person. If the IUD is made of stainless steel, it can usually be placed for 15-20 years if there is no displacement or unwanted pregnancy; if there is no discomfort, it can be removed six months after menopause. If it is a silicone rubber or plastic birth control ring, it can usually be placed for 3-5 years; the plastic and copper hybrid ring can be replaced after 5-10 years. The more common Manuelle ring contains highly effective progestin, which can treat adenomyosis, etc. It is generally valid for 5 years, beyond which there is no therapeutic effect and needs to be replaced in time. In addition, the time of placement should be combined with the individual situation. If there is ring displacement, irregular vaginal bleeding, endometrial polyp or other uncomfortable symptoms during the period with the ring, it is recommended to remove the ring in time to avoid serious inflammation.
