Xia Gu Cao, taste pungent, bitter, cold in nature. It belongs to liver and gallbladder meridian. It has the efficacy of clearing the liver and diarrhea, brightening the eyes, dispersing knots and eliminating swelling.
It can be used to treat eye redness and swelling pain, eye pearl night pain, headache and dizziness, scrofula (mainly refers to cervical lymph node tuberculosis), breast carbuncle (red, swollen and painful breasts, poor milk discharge, and ultimately a suppurative disease), breast fetish (painful lumps in the breasts, which are closely related to menstrual cycle and emotional changes, equivalent to breast hyperplasia), breast swelling and pain, and other diseases.
It is often decocted and taken as 9~15g; or boiled and taken as paste. Caution should be exercised for those with weak spleen and stomach.
