Can I eat before having an ultrasound of the uterine appendages?

There are no special dietary requirements for uterine adnexal ultrasound, so you can eat and drink water. For transabdominal uterine adnexal ultrasound, you need to eat and drink more water to facilitate the bladder to hold urine. Only when you drink a lot of water and eat a full meal will your urine fill up easily. Transabdominal ultrasound requires using the filled bladder as a window through which to look at the posterior uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. With transvaginal or transrectal ultrasound, diet is not an obstacle to the examination and there is no need to take into account diet or water intake. Uterine adnexal examinations require knowledge of the menstrual cycle and ultrasound should be avoided during menstruation. If the menstrual cycle is disturbed and the examination is necessary, the patient should explain to the doctor that special protective measures can be taken to solve the problem.
