What to see for carotid artery

Problems with the carotid arteries can be seen in neurosurgery, as neurosurgery allows for a detailed evaluation of the carotid artery lesions. Ultrasound or CT or CTA can be used to find out if there is plaque in the carotid arteries, if it is causing stenosis or occlusion of the arteries, or if there is any aneurysm formation. In the case of stenosis or occlusion, the endothelium of the artery can be stripped off by incision, followed by anastomosis, which removes the atherosclerotic plaque and restores blood flow to the lumen of the artery. Interventional treatment, such as the placement of a stent in the narrowed or occluded carotid artery, may also be used to restore blood flow to the carotid artery and improve ischemia and hypoxia in the brain tissue.
