Pins and needles pain at the touch of the fingertips indicates the presence of nerve damage. The damage may be to the central nerve or to a peripheral nerve.
Most central nerve injuries are seen in cervical cord injuries, which can be caused by trauma or compression by a herniated disc. Injury can lead to nociceptive hypersensitivity, which can manifest itself as a sensation of pinprick pain at the touch of the fingertips.
Peripheral nerve injuries, such as brachial plexus strain, nerve entrapment syndromes such as elbow canal syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome. A strained or compressed nerve can cause a sensation of pinprick-like pain in the fingertips.
If there is a pinprick-like sensation when the fingertips are touched, it is recommended that the patient go to the hospital, improve the examination and then carry out regular treatment.
