The treatment of Liver-Qi stagnation can be utilized at Liver Yu, Taichong, and Tanzhong points, but interventions such as acupuncture or pressure are commonly used, and moxibustion is less frequently used.
1. Liver Yu: on the back, under the spinous process of the 9th thoracic vertebra, 1.5 inches from the center line. It can dredge the liver and regulate qi, clear heat and remove dampness, and calm the spirit and wind. It can be used for jaundice, bitter taste in the mouth, dystocia (pain in the area of coercion and ribs), consumption, and hot flashes.
2. Taichong: on the dorsum of the foot, between the 1st and 2nd metatarsal bones, in the depression in front of the metatarsal base union, can calm the Liver and calm the wind, dredge the Liver and nourish Blood. It can be used for dizziness, dysmenorrhea, insomnia, epilepsy, low back pain.
3. Tanzhong: Located in the chest, transverse to the 4th intercostal space, on the anterior midline. It can broaden the chest and regulate qi, relieve cough and asthma, lower the rebelliousness and stop vomiting (stop the upward rush of gastric qi and stop vomiting). It can be used for cough, asthma, chest tightness, heart pain, choking, eructation (hiccups), post-partum milk shortage, and breast carbuncle (red, swollen and painful breasts, with poor milk discharge and eventual suppurative disease).
