Bone grafting is not necessary for odontogenic maxillary cysts if the lesion is small and can be removed by scraping only. Bone grafting is necessary for larger lesions or multiple recurrences that require removal of the jawbone along with the cyst, and for those whose bone wall has been destroyed, as described below. The surgical procedure for odontogenic maxillary cysts is cyst scraping, as keratinized cysts are prone to recurrence, the surgery requires thorough scraping. If the cyst lesion is large in scope, or if it is a multiple recurrence keratinized cyst, the jawbone needs to be removed together with the lesion soft tissue, and bone grafting is done immediately. If the bone wall of the cyst has been destroyed and the cyst membrane is adherent to the periosteum, the adherent periosteum should be removed together to avoid residual recurrence, followed by bone grafting. It is recommended to go to the hospital in time to receive professional treatment as soon as possible.
