Many patients who brake after an injury face a major problem – joint stiffness. However, in order to restore a good joint movement, after seeking medical help, they often undergo a brutal treatment, hard breaking. Most of the patients experience severe pain and still no improvement, or even further damage occurs! We once reported on a young girl from Gansu who lost 25 pounds in tears every day after undergoing 7 months of violent hard breaking, but as a result, her movement was still limited. And after a scientific treatment, there was a significant progress in just a few days. So let’s see why we refuse to break hard. Long before 1952, 63 years ago, the West became concerned about stiff joints and began to treat them. The technique used was the long lever rotation technique, where the distal end of the limb was manipulated to break in the direction of restricted motion, which is the method that is still used in many places today, the violent hard break. We can see that the right side of the articular surface was collided, which often produced severe pain and even fractures and tears in the bones and surrounding tissues, but the improvement in motion was also lackluster and did not stretch the restricted tissues very well. By the 52nd year, people could not tolerate the severe pain, ineffective treatment and even the hard breaking that brought about joint damage, so the short lever rotation method was introduced, which changed from manipulating the distal end of the limb to being close to the joint surface, thus reducing the chance of many joint injuries. But pain and treatment were still not as good as they could have been. As the understanding of joint motion continued, in ’54, linear movement of the bones, including sliding and traction, was introduced in accordance with the principle of concavity of the joint, which reduced friction between bone and bone and stretched the soft tissues more, and became the best method of improving joint mobility today – arthrodesis. The violent hard break that was eliminated more than 60 years ago can be performed by just one strong man, so why go to a specialized hospital for treatment? It can even cause you more pain and damage! More than 60 years later, there are already perfect techniques, humane treatment, and we hope every patient can receive painless, scientific rehabilitation treatment.
