“Establish a sensible routine, such as protecting the affected knee joint, avoiding long and tiring walks, climbing hills, going up and down high stairs, and various poor postures (prolonged standing, kneeling and squatting, etc.).
Obese people should reduce their body mass: being overweight increases the burden on the joints and a standard body mass should be maintained.
Protect the joints by wearing joint protectors such as knee pads, avoiding high heels, wearing soft, flexible “sports shoes”, using suitable insoles and wedge insoles for medial compartment arthritis.
Reduce the load on the affected joint during flare-ups and use a walking stick or walker to assist with mobility.
Joint muscle exercises.
1. Moderate aerobic exercise walking, swimming, cycling etc. helps to maintain joint function.
2. Moderate Taijiquan and Baduanjin exercises. 3.
3. Flexion and extension of the knee joint under non-weight bearing conditions to maintain joint mobility.
4. Exercises for the muscles or muscle groups concerned to strengthen the muscles and increase the stability of the joints, e.g. isometric stretching exercises for the quadriceps of the lower limbs.”
