Botulinum toxin in dermatology

The scientific name for the “face slimming injection” that you often hear mentioned nowadays is Botulinum toxin type A. Botulinum toxin was first approved by the U.S. FDA in 1979 for use in strabismus treatment. Since 1987, when Dr. and Mrs. Jean discovered the use of BOTOX in cosmetic applications, the world has been going crazy about it. Its mechanism of action is to block the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, by binding to the presynaptic end plate of the neuromuscular junction, thus preventing muscle contraction. Based on the above principle, the application of Botulinum toxin in dermatology mainly includes the following aspects: 1.Eliminating dynamic wrinkles, such as frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, hare’s feet, lip lines, etc. 2.Lifting facial contours, such as brow lift (compared with surgical brow lift, it has the advantages of less damage, leaving no marks and no need to wait for the incision to heal), cheek lift, etc. 3, treatment of muscle hypertrophy, such as bite muscle (slimming face), gastrocnemius muscle (slimming calves), etc. 4.Inhibit sweat excretion, treat excessive sweating of hands and feet, armpit odor. 5.Treatment of dewy smile. Recently, it has been found that injection of Botox around surgical incisions can effectively reduce scar growth.
