Xiao Chaihu Tang is not the same as Chaihu Shuo Liver San, both of them have different composition and indications, etc.
Xiao Chaihu Tang is composed of half-summer, ginseng, Chaihu, ginger, etc. It has the efficacy of reconciling Shaoyang (treating exogenous fever with evil between half-expression and half-limit), harmonizing stomach and lowering rebelliousness (regulating stomach qi and making the upward rebellious qi descend), and can be used for the symptoms of typhoid fever and shaoyang (a kind of six-meridian disease of Typhoid Fever with the disease position between the surface and the inside); jaundice, malaria, etc. and see the symptoms of shaoyang, and so on.
Chai Hu Shuo Liver Essence: composed of Chai Hu, Xiang Fu, Citrus aurantium, Chen Pi, Paeoniae Lactiflorae, Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae Praeparatae, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, it has the efficacy of dispersing the liver to promote circulation of qi and blood to alleviate pain and can be used for symptoms of liver qi stagnation, including tightness in the chest with a tendency to sigh, belching, tenderness in the abdomen and ribs, easy to be irritable or depressed, and fullness and bloating in the abdomen and epigastrium (distension of the gastric and abdominal regions).
