Can interferon treat shingles?

Interferon can be used to treat shingles. Interferon is commonly used clinically in two dosage forms, including topical preparations and injections. The injectable interferon can be given as a local injection and is able to cause paravertebral nerve block to relieve the pain of herpes zoster, thus providing a therapeutic effect. Topical preparations of interferon can also be used to treat herpes zoster by applying it 4 times a day for 10 days, but contraindications should be noted and treatment with interferon is not recommended for patients with severe heart disease, allergy to interferon, or severe liver or kidney dysfunction. Since interferon itself is a drug, it is advisable for patients to undergo treatment under the guidance of a doctor and not to purchase drugs at will.
