Cancer, as a disease with high mortality rate, has a great negative impact on people’s emotions. Cancer patients often have bad emotional reactions such as tension, fear, anxiety, depression and mania, etc. Therefore, using suitable music to regulate their emotions plays a very important role in overcoming the disease. Music therapy is one of the traditional therapies in Chinese medicine, as early as two thousand years ago, the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine put forward the doctrine of five sounds for five organs, according to “Su Wen – Yin and Yang should be like the great theory”, “liver, in the sound for the corner; heart, in the sound for the micro, spleen, in the sound for the palace; lung, in the sound for the Shang; kidney, in the sound for the feather.” The five tones of horn, micro, palace, shang, and feather correspond closely to the five human emotions of anger, joy, fury, grief, and fear. The horn is the wood sound, the micro is the fire sound, the palace is the earth sound, the Shang is the gold sound, and the feather is the water sound. This means that the five tones correspond to the five elements and are connected to the five organs and the five wills. The music of jiao tune has the property of wood qi, which can prevent the internal depression of qi; the music of micro tune has the characteristic of fire qi, which is beneficial to prevent the downward movement of qi; the music of Gong tune has the characteristic of earth qi, which is beneficial to prevent the upward and downward movement of qi; the music of Shang tune has the characteristic of gold qi, which is beneficial to prevent the dissipation of qi; the music of Yu tune is the embodiment of water qi, which is beneficial to prevent the upward and downward movement of qi or excessive inflammation. The relationship between the five elements is discriminatory, with both mutual production and mutual destruction. Specifically, wood gives birth to fire, fire gives birth to earth, earth gives birth to gold, gold gives birth to water, and water gives birth to wood; wood grinds earth, earth grinds water, water grinds fire, fire grinds gold, and gold grinds wood. This is why the five elements of music can play a role in calming and secreting yin and yang, regulating qi and blood, maintaining the dynamic balance of qi in the body, and maintaining human health. Medicine now believes that the effect of music on the patient is not simply an entertainment effect, but that it can affect the function of the central nervous system and treat the disease from both the physical and psychological aspects. Studies have shown that music therapy has a positive effect on depression, anxiety and schizophrenia. It can also be used for hypertension, coronary heart disease, senile dementia, sequelae of cerebrovascular disease, vegetative state after traumatic brain injury, various types of pain, tinnitus, insomnia, etc. In recent years, there has been an increasing trend of introducing music therapy into the field of oncology treatment, exploring the role of music in improving the quality of life of patients through its intervention in negative emotions, sleep pattern disorders, malnutrition and pain in cancer patients, and some researchers have also conducted observations of immune function indicators. Music has a significant regulatory effect on the human body, which has been confirmed by modern medical research. Light music makes people comfortable, happy and tranquil; majestic rhythmic music makes people feel uplifted and relaxed. According to the theory of Chinese medicine and psychology, medical workers in China have researched and created music psychotherapy instrument, which has obvious effect of regulating psychological state and treating diseases in clinical practice. Western medical psychology research shows that the normal cell growth, reproduction, internal organs and brain have a specific vibration rhythm. The music that makes people feel comfortable is actually in tune with the physiological vibration rhythm of people. Therefore, music can activate the normal cellular micro-vibrations that were inhibited in cancer patients, so that immune cells are in the best condition to defeat cancer cells and play an anti-cancer role. Music therapy has been used in Europe and the United States to treat various diseases, and has achieved promising results in the treatment of depression and mania, as well as in the treatment of malignant tumors.
