Identifying cardiac distress and gastric distress can be done through symptoms and imaging.
Symptoms: The heart is located in the lower left side of the center of the chest cavity of the human body. Heart discomfort can be characterized by palpitations, chest tightness, chest pressure, panic, dizziness, rapid heartbeat and other uncomfortable symptoms. The stomach is located in the left upper abdomen, in the left quarter rib area and below the xiphoid process. Stomach discomfort can present with uncomfortable symptoms such as bloating, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, vomiting blood, and diarrhea.
Triggers for cardiac discomfort can include: emotional stress, strenuous activity, etc. Rest first, and take nitroglycerin or other medications for relief if there is no obvious effect. Stomach discomfort is mostly caused by irregular diet, overeating, intake of irritating food or alcohol.
2. Imaging tests: It is not enough to distinguish between cardiac and gastric discomfort based on symptoms alone, and a combination of relevant tests is needed for a definitive diagnosis. Tests for heart discomfort include electrocardiogram, dynamic electrocardiogram, coronary angiogram and other tests. Gastroscopy, barium X-ray and fecal examination can be performed for stomach discomfort.
It is recommended that the patient actively consult a medical doctor for differential diagnosis and treatment.
