Most patients with cranial defects are due to falling objects, mechanical blows, car accidents, diseases, etc. Once people have skull defects, the soft tissues of the human brain lose their hard protective shell and are easily damaged. Skull repair surgery is needed to protect the soft tissues of the brain by putting a hard skull shell on the patient. Is skull repair surgery dangerous? If patients think there is risk, it is related to the repair material they choose. If patients choose metal titanium mesh as repair material, they may have imperfect shaping during surgery or rejection after surgery, resulting in failure of surgery. If the patient chooses the new PEEK material for cranial repair, the risk of surgery is reduced, and the smoothness of the bone plate made with 3D printing technology is very good. PEEK is a new material for cranial repair and has not been widely promoted in China, so not many hospitals choose PEEK for cranial repair. During the review process, the MRI revealed that the PEEK (polyether ether ketone) bone plate completely overcame the metallic artifacts and the MRI image was very clear and the structure was very well defined to the patient’s satisfaction.
