The first measurement of blood pressure every day is always high may be caused by physiological factors such as mental tension, or by pathologic factors such as hypertension. General treatment and medication can be given.
1. Physiological factors: If the patient is easily nervous before the first blood pressure measurement every day, or if he/she has consumed coffee or strong tea, or has been engaged in strenuous exercise, the blood pressure measurement may be very high. The patient should rest quietly for a period of time before taking the blood pressure measurement.
2. Hypertension: If the patient maintains the standardized blood pressure measurement in a quiet state every time, and the three blood pressure measurements in the non-same day are generally high, the patient may be considered to have hypertension. The patient’s blood pressure should be lowered by beta-blockers (e.g. metoprolol), calcium antagonists (e.g. nifedipine) and other medications as prescribed by the doctor, and attention should also be paid to regular work and rest, low-salt and low-fat diets, etc. The patient should not rely solely on the first blood pressure measurement.
Do not assume that a patient has high blood pressure just because the first blood pressure measurement is very high. If you feel unwell, consult a doctor as soon as possible, and it is best to conduct 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure measurement under the guidance of a doctor to rule out high blood pressure measurement due to physiological factors.
