It is appropriate to reduce blood pressure to 110/70mmHg after taking medication for hypertension, but it also depends on whether the patient can tolerate such a low level of blood pressure, if not, the dose of antihypertensive drugs should be adjusted.
For patients with hypertension, the standard of blood pressure control with antihypertensive drugs is below 140/90mmHg, and if the patient can tolerate it, it can be lowered to below 130/80mmHg. For patients with combined coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, renal failure, stroke and other underlying diseases, the blood pressure is required to be lower than 130/80mmHg in order to minimize further damage to the target organs.
For elderly patients whose blood pressure has been at a high level for a long time, the process of lowering blood pressure can not be achieved in one step, and a stepwise lowering of blood pressure is needed. For example, the blood pressure of patients aged 65-79 years old can be lowered to less than 150/90 mmHg, and if tolerated, can be further lowered to less than 140/90 mmHg; patients aged 80 years old and above can be lowered to less than 150/90 mmHg, and so on.
If you suffer from high blood pressure or experience discomfort during the process of lowering blood pressure, you should go to a regular medical institution in time and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
