Some intestinal polyp surgeries require hospitalization, while others do not, depending on the size and number of polyps, as well as the type of polyp. If the polyps are relatively small and few in number, hospitalization is not required at this point. The gastroenterologist will remove the polyps under colonoscopy, send a pathologic biopsy, and the patient can return home. However, if there are many polyps in the intestines or if they are deep enough to be removed, there may be bleeding in the intestines, sometimes leading to an intestinal fistula, which will require hospitalization. If the patient has multiple familial intestinal polyps, hospitalization is even more necessary, and usually all of the colon will be removed and an anastomosis between the colon and the anal canal will be performed. Therefore, the need for hospitalization should be consulted with the attending physician after completing the relevant examinations. During the treatment period, patients should not drink alcohol or eat spicy food.
