Is it necessary to have a postoperative petctomy for colon cancer?

If recurrence or metastasis is suspected after colon cancer surgery, PET-CT review can be considered, on the contrary, it can not be done.
Recurrence and metastasis of colon cancer can directly affect the survival of patients. If metastasis or recurrence is suspected after surgery, PET-CT examination should be considered. Whole-body PET-CT examination can show the location of the lesion, as well as whether the tumor has invasion, liver metastasis, lymph node metastasis and so on.
The diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of PET-CT are better than CT and MRI, so when the patient is suspected of recurrence or metastasis of colon cancer after surgery and the tumor markers are higher than before, it is recommended to improve the PET-CT examination if possible, which is more helpful for diagnosis.
Due to the expensive cost of PET-CT, it is not routinely recommended, but only used when the condition requires discretion. Whether PET-CT examination is needed after colon cancer surgery is decided according to whether the patient’s mass has recurrence or metastasis and the change of condition, and is performed according to the doctor’s instruction.
